Cuthbert Lake was founded nearly 250 years ago and remains entirely within the ownership and control of the practising equity partners.

The partners provide a personal commitment to clients’ property matters and to resolving problems. They consider the firm’s independence of other organisations to be of great importance.

Cuthbert Lake is organised as two divisions; General Practice under the direction of the senior partner Anthony Saunders and Richard Moyle and Building Surveying which is the responsibility of Jim Buckle and James McCabe. This enables the firm to give comprehensive property advice to clients.

The practice has always had strong links with the legal profession; it moved in 1997 to Gray’s Inn from the premises in Lincoln’s Inn where the firm had been since about 1908.

Two of the partners Martin Woodhead and John Daborn are based in Exeter as partners with an associated similar practice Drew Pearce.
